About Me

Hello, everyone.

My name's Rab (which means Robert in Scotland).

It's always nice to see new collaboration sites emerging and watch how they develop. Finding Kompoz.com through an e-mail I received in February 2007, I thought I'd join this site too. It's been great to be involved with lots of guys and girls from various music collaboration sites over the years - so it's possible my name will be known to some here already.

Although I play bass guitar (poorly), my main activity these days in the collaboration world is more to do with the technical side of sound recording and music production rather than playing bass guitar. In that respect I like to offer help with mixing and mastering. No genre is off limits. I've got some very nice gear at this end, have done both FOH and studio and learned lots of "stuff" from the pro's over several decades - so I'm always happy to share the knowledge gained.

First and foremost, I consider myself a sound engineer much in the same way that someone calls his/herself a guitarist or vocalist, etc.  One thing I'm not is an expert with a superioristic ego to satisfy. I tend to communicate in simple terms about technical matters so as not to have people feeling intimidated by the technology - and in particular so that I don't come across as a know-it-all (because I don't know it all). I'm quite ordinary in actual fact and like learning from others knowledge and experience.

If you want to checkout the gear that folks use on Kompoz (including what I currently use) point your browser at this forum message

Finally, can I just say that there's been some nice comments posted in my profile. I really appreciate all those kind words and feel very humbled by them. I only delete those comments after a while so that I can keep my feet firmly on the ground. I hope I've not offended anyone by deleting their comments. As I always say, "it's you guys who build the car.... I just add a little polish" :o)
